Louis Benowitz G.G is the head designer of rpwax.com. He has been in the jewelry business since 1980. In September of 1983 Mr. Benowitz graduated from the Gemological Institute of America... (G.I.A.) #1. It was then that he began to travel around the world yearly buying loose gemstones and designing jewelry. Mr. Benowitz has gained certificates of merit for fine jewelry design, cad design as well as gemological identification and appraisal.

On your left is a picture of an actual gemstone mining shaft in Sri Lanka. The typical depth is between 90 and 150 feet deep. The shaft is secured with only bamboo poles and banana leaves. There is no mechanized mining allowed in Sri Lanka only the water removal tube so shaft flooding is minimized. After the gravel is removed from the bottom of the shaft gravel is brought up bucket by bucket and undergoes the initial sorting right in the field.

Here you can see the results from many days of searching. Actual sapphire and ruby rough gemstones. The uncut stones were examined prior to purchasing, then they are given to the best gem cutters to bring out the life inside. The process is exciting and the best gemstones are brought back to be sold to you by Mr. Benowitz. The others are sold locally in Sri Lanka or to common jewelry stores seeking low to medium quality.
